Editing Services and Rates

Editing Services and Rates

The Editorial Freelancers Association defines levels of service. I offer:

  1. Developmental Editing

  2. Line Editing

  3. Copy Editing

  4. Proofreading

NOTE: I will provide guidance on student papers, but as I'm not currently the student or the instructor in a given course, I do not guarantee clients a certain grade, and I do not write or do extensive editing on academic papers. For academic papers, I offer only proofreading and guidance at the All of the Above rate listed below. Editing services are not meant to replace learning or to do the work of a writer. I reserve the right to terminate any working relationship if what I can provide does not meet the needs of a given project.

Click the link associated with each service name to read the EFA description for the service, choose the service you need, then let me know how I can help you by completing the Service Request Form

I will email you an invoice and instructions about how to submit payment when I return each manuscript to you.

Payment plans are available. Cost shouldn't stand in the way of you or your business looking professional in print. Let me know on the Editing Services Request Form if you'd like to establish a payment plan. I look forward to working with you.

Developmental Editing

In developmental editing, I help you present your story or ideas in the most effective way possible. I look at the parts that make up your writing, such as overall structure, characters, and plot, and how will they work with each other to convey what you want to convey.

Line Editing

When line editing, I will look at word choice and phrasing. My aim will be to polish the writing style at the sentence and paragraph levels. I will note my recommendations in the sentences where they apply. I will make recommendations relating to word choice and sentence structure. At this stage of editing, the aspects of a project I comment on may not be errors in the strict sense. My goal with this type of editing is to improve the quality and clarity of writing, not just to point out mistakes.

Copyediting

When copyediting, I will look for formatting and content consistency issues, as well as spelling, grammar, and punctuation issues. I will mark errors in word choice and sentence structure.

All of the Above

$0.033 per Word ($8.25 per page)

Proofreading

When proofreading, I will NOT make style recommendations, and proofreading is not about changing words or sentence structure. I will look for spelling, capitalization, grammar, and punctuation issues. I will also look for typos and words accidentally typed twice. A project that is ready for proofreading has already been through all previous stages of editing. The proofreading stage is the last one before a project is ready for publication.
